5 Oils Everyone Should Be Using

Not all oils are created equal.

Some oils are rancid, making them toxic to your organs, and bodily cells. Other oils are blended, meaning they are mixed with lower quality oils that lead to oil impurity, and a decrease in quality. The worst of the oils are filled with LDL, or bad cholesterol, which clog your arteries, and lead to major complications, such as: fatigue, increased blood pressure, and heart attacks. 

Oils are like love—when it's bad, it's detrimental, but when it's good, it's phenomenal. 

As you read about these five oils every yogi should use, there are a few things to keep in mind: Raw, cold-pressed oils reign supreme. Cold-pressed oils are created with low-temperature processes, which means that all the body-loving vitamins and minerals are kept in tact.

Cold-pressed oils are not the same as virgin oils. Fresh-pressed oil is not the same as cold-pressed oil. And... Canola oil should not be edible.

1. Cold-pressed coconut oil

What's the average yogi's most coveted oil? Coconut oil, of courseCoconut oil is is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, deeply hydrating (even to deepest tissues within your organs), it balances your thyroid (and hormones), and it is highly stable at high-temperatures—making it great for cooking. 

Coconut oil typically takes two years, or more, to go bad when sitting inside your cupboard—and it's packed with a sea of nutritional benefits: It reverses damage from LDL fats (bad cholesterol), it kills off candida when consumed on an empty stomach, it helps you burn more fat by stabilizing your body's blood sugar, and it prevents your body from aging due to it's high antioxidant levels.

2. Cold-pressed olive oil

While coconut oil may help you look and feel great, olive oil will help you with a slew of health related problems.  

Olive oil is anti-inflammatory, and because it's packed with antioxidants, olive oil is also highly beneficial to your cardiovascular system.

Olive oil's polyphenol content makes it especially beneficial for maintaining healthy stomach acid levels, and helps balance the upper intestine. 

The tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol content in olive oil also make it especially helpful for your body to retain and increase bone density—and according to this article, olive oil is able to improve cognitive functioning.

How? "In laboratory animals with brain function that had been compromised by lack of oxygen, consumption of olive oil helped offset many different types of brain-related problems, including unbalanced water content, unbalanced nervous system activity, and too easy passage of molecules across the blood brain barrier. 3. Citrus Essential oils: lemon essential oil, sweet orange essential oil, grapefruit essential oil

If you're planning on adding essential oils into your food and drinks, make sure they are food grade quality.

Why, you say? Many oils these days are created in toxic environments, and cut with filler oils that contain toxic particles (like lead). That's gross. That depletes your brain function. That makes your body sick. Stick with organic, food-grade quality to receive the full benefit of the oil, and have fewer ick-factors with your essential oil experience. 

4. Cold-pressed grapeseed oil

What's great about grapeseed oil is the omega-3 fatty acid content, the omega-6 fatty acid content, and high vitamin E content. 5. Cold-pressed avocado oil

Avocado oil?! Yes—it's made from the skin, meat, and seed of the avocado—and it contains high amounts of vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, folate, and potassium.
